DIRECTOR

 

The University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus, seeks outstanding internal UBC candidates for the position of Director of the Advanced Materials and Process Engineering Laboratory (AMPEL).

 

AMPEL was created as a result of the late Professor Brimacombe’s vision to build a facility to house and facilitate multidisciplinary materials engineering research. Members of AMPEL are from diverse disciplines including Chemistry, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics & Astronomy. The successful candidate must hold an appointment at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor, and must be a current active member of AMPEL. The ideal candidate is a dynamic, visionary and collaborative leader, who will bring people together and build on AMPEL’s strengths in education, research and professional practice as it manages its growth trajectory. The successful candidate must have proven leadership and administrative experience or have demonstrated the potential for such skills in other ways.

 

The Director will be responsible for the governance, organization, administration and resources of AMPEL. They will be expected to foster AMPEL’s interactions with its internal and external communities, identify the challenges and opportunities facing AMPEL and to devise and implement strategies to address challenges and benefits from opportunities, and lead new collaborative research initiatives and secure new resources.

 

The position is for a five-year term and will be available on January 1, 2025 or soon after, depending on the completion time of the selection process.
